About

Dakshayani (Sanskrit: दाक्षायणी) is another name for Goddess Sati, the first consort of Lord Shiva and the daughter of King Daksha Prajapati. She is revered in Hindu mythology as a powerful embodiment of Shakti — the divine feminine power, devotion, purity, and self‑sacrifice. Her story plays a central role in the origin of the Shakti Peethas, sacred sites across South Asia where parts of her body are believed to have fallen after her self‑immolation during the Daksha Yajna. These sites are worshipped as manifestations of the Goddess and are major pilgrimage destinations for devotees of Shaktism.
