Smarta Vivah

Smarta Vivah is rooted in the Smarta tradition, which follows the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya and emphasizes harmony among various forms of divine worship. In this vivah, marriage is viewed as a sacred samskara that balances devotion, duty, and spiritual wisdom, making it suitable for families that follow inclusive Vedic practices.

In Smarta Vivah, the wedding rituals are performed strictly according to Vedic injunctions with equal reverence to Panchayatana deities—Shiva, Vishnu, Devi, Surya, and Ganesha. The ceremony begins with Ganesh Puja, Kalash Sthapana, and Sankalp, followed by Navagraha Puja to ensure cosmic harmony. Kanyadaan is performed with Vedic mantras, symbolizing the sacred responsibility of the bride’s family. The Vivah Homa invokes Agni as the divine witness, and Saptapadi binds the couple through seven vows that guide them in dharma, artha, kama, and moksha. The ceremony concludes with Mangalsutra Dharan, Sindoor Vidhi, and Ashirvad, blessing the couple with a balanced and righteous married life.
