The Matsya Purāṇa is one of the eighteen Mahāpurāṇas and is centered on Lord Vishnu’s Matsya (fish) incarnation, in which He saves the world from a great deluge and protects the Vedas. Through the story of Matsya guiding King Manu’s boat during the cosmic flood, the Purāṇa teaches themes of preservation, righteousness, and divine protection. It also contains extensive information on creation, genealogies of gods and sages, duties for different stages of life, temple architecture, iconography, festivals, and sacred geography. Blending mythology, moral teachings, and practical knowledge, the Matsya Purāṇa presents a comprehensive view of dharma and the Divine’s role in sustaining the universe.
