The Shiva Purāṇa is one of the eighteen Mahāpurāṇas and is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the divine force of transformation and cosmic dissolution. This sacred text contains teachings about Shiva’s various forms, his cosmic roles, and the profound symbolism associated with him. It narrates the stories of Shiva, Pārvatī, their sons (Ganesha and Kartikeya), as well as legends of devotees like Markandeya and Nandi. The Purāṇa also contains philosophical discussions on Shiva-tattva, rituals, vratās, the importance of Shiva worship, and the glory of sacred sites such as Kedarnath and Varanasi.
