The Vishnu Purāṇa is one of the eighteen Mahāpurāṇas and is among the most important texts of Vaishnavism. It focuses on Lord Vishnu as the Supreme Being and describes His role in sustaining and preserving the universe. The Purāṇa outlines the creation of the cosmos, the cycles of time (yugas), genealogies of gods and kings, and the stories of Vishnu’s various incarnations—including Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Vamana, Rama, and Krishna. It also explains duties (dharma), moral conduct, and the path of devotion (bhakti) as the means to liberation. Known for its clarity and philosophical depth, the Vishnu Purāṇa serves as both a spiritual text and a historical source for ancient Indian traditions.
