Narashima Jaynati, it’s clear from the name only that the day is celebrated for Lord Narashima. On this day only Lord Vishnu took the form of half animal and half human to protect his biggest devotee, Prahlad. It is said that just by remembering the name of Narasimha Bhagwan you can be relieved of fear, evil and negative energy altogether.

Katha
There may be hardly anyone who doesn’t know about Lord Narshima an the story of Prahlad. But to narrate it from a point of view here is the following Katha:
There is such negativity in this world which can swallow a person alive. The hate, greed, jealousy and all the negative emotions make even a good person act barbarian-like to get what they want. There are many such examples. One of such is the story of Hiranyakashyap, the demon who wanted to be god.
Diti was the wife of Kashyap Rishi, She and her 12 sisters were his consort and daughters of Daksha Prajapati. There are many different accounts of the number of wives Kashyap Rishi had ranging from 8 to 13 to 21.
Diti is the mother of asuras and also the mother of Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashyap, the two demon brothers predicted to bring ruin to the three ‘Lokas’.
Hiranyaksha was killed by Varaha avatar of Lord Vishnu for abducting Dharti. Then under the influence of asur-guru Shukracharya he went on to become powerful and even received a boon from Brahma deva to be invincible. No man or animal may kill him, any weapon will not ever so slightly graze him, he can’t be killed in his house nor out of his house, neither at daytime nor at night, not in air, not on land and nor in water, this was the boon he received.
After receiving this boon he was unstoppable in his conquest and torturous ways. But he didn't ever imagine in his wildest dreams that his own son would be the one who will become the reason for his death.
As Prahlad grew so did his devotion for Lord Vishnu. He despite being of asura clan still had true devotion and love for the supreme and compassion for every being totally contradicting his father.
After Hiranyakashyap knew of this he tried various ways to get his son away from Vishnu bhakti but Prahlad didn’t budge from his decision. He even tried to set him on fire but Prahlad was still safe but his sister died because of him but Hiranyakashyap still blamed Prahlad for all of it.
At last when Hirayankashyap himself decided to end his own son’s life Lord Vishnu took his fourth avatar ‘Narasimha' a half man half lion. He then ended Hiranyakashyap by finding the perfect loophole in his boon. He took him to the threshold of his palace, at dusk and with his claws ended his life on his thighs.
Thus the evil tyranny of Hiranyakashyap came to a satisfying and gruesome end. After the ordeal was over no one could calm the lord and his monstrous rage for the injustice suffered by his devotee who was just a wee child.
But in the end he was calmed by his beloved devotee Prahlad.
Though there are many accounts of this event all with different stories but what they all have in common is the fact that the Supreme doesn’t discriminate from birth, race, species or any fickle he judges by faith and karma.
So, have faith in yourself and the supreme, do good karmas and you may just have the chance to meet the supreme lord one day in any form. Just be sure that you can recognise him.
Puja Vidhi
To help you with celebrating this day with ease you can choose Bhaktinama’s online services to be your helper for the day.
There are many ways to celebrate this day, some given below:
Vrat: Devotees abstain from food and water from sunrise until sunset to seek Lord Narasimha’s protection from danger and evil.
Morning Rituals: Wake up in the Brahma Muhurta, take a bath, and wear clean clothes.
Home Puja Setup: Clean the home shrine, set up an idol or image of Lord Narasimha, and decorate it with flowers.
Evening Puja (The Main Event): As Narasimha appeared at twilight, conduct the main puja during this time. Offer Panchamrit, yellow flowers, tulsi leaves, and fruits.
Chanting & Prayers: Recite the Vishnu Sahasranamam, Narasimha Stotram, or Narasimha Kavacham to invoke his protection.
The mantra "Om Ugra Narasimhaye Vidmahe, Vajra Nakhaye Dheemahi, Tanno Narasimha Prachodayat" is often chanted 108 times.
Reading Scripture: Read the story of Prahlad and Narasimha from the Bhagavad Purana.
Charity: Engage in Ann-daan to gain merit.
The time of puja is evening, more specifically the time of dusk as it is the time associated with the victory of good over evil and the extent a godly being can go to protect their devotee because as big of a devotee we are of our Aaradhya’s they also are ‘Daas’ of their devotees, Meaning even the biggest existences of the universe can bow down before the tiniest most insignificant part of the three Lokas.
Breaking of the fast: After the puja and aarti in the evening, break the fast by taking charanamrit and consuming sattvic food.
Significance
The significance of this day is such that it can’t be encompassed in words only but we’ll try to express the best we can.
This day is marked down in our calendar not because it is the day Lord Vishnu himself took his fourth Avatar but it’s the events that lead to such day. Why? What was the need for him to do this?
The answer is because he can do so if he wills. That can be a reason if you think about it. But this day is marked down as the victory of good over evil, of the divine love of a deity and a devotee. And how even if the world is against you, your own father condemns you, your faith in yourself, in the supreme, in that divine is enough for you to stand tall and confident against the world alone for you are not entirely alone either.
They are with you.
They will not let any negativity be with you but you first have to learn to trust the process and yourself. Without the self-confidence, the dedication to reach your goal nobody will help no matter how loud you cry about it.
